Raven Khreis

Grand Island High School PTSA has announced the results of its Reflections contest, which recognizes artistic achievement.

Raven Khreis, a sophomore at GIHS, received the Award of Excellence in Literature. Khreis said the award is her second in the Reflections program. In third grade, she won for a song she wrote.

According to the PTA.org website, each year, more than 300,000 students in pre-kindergarten through Grade 12 create original works of art to a theme. The 2021–2022 Reflections theme is "I Will Change the World By ... ." Students submit works of art in categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. Grade divisions are Primary (pre-K to grade 2), Intermediate (grades 3 to 5), Middle School (grades 6 to 8), High School (grades 9 to 12), and Special Artist (all grades).

Khreis' essay, "Change the World by Changing Lives," was sent to the Niagara Region PTA competition, where it will have a chance to advance to the New York State PTA contest.
