GIHS Seniors Selected for Regional Honor Ensembles
Grand Island High School seniors Ryan Michki, tenor, and Savanna Lenze, soprano, were selected to be part of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) 2021 All-Eastern Honor Ensembles. This is a very prestigious honor, as they are among 719 of the finest high school musicians from Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Ryan and Savanna were able to participate in a "virtual weekend" experience March 4-6, 2021. The weekend included keynote speakers, master classes with professional musicians, rehearsals with their conductors, opportunities to interact with colleges and universities of various types, and mock auditions. Ryan got to work with Dr. Cory Ganschow, Bradley University, for the Mixed Chorus and Savanna worked with Dr. Amanda Quist, Miami University, for the Treble Choir.
Both Grand Island students are individually recording their performance, and then the recordings will be edited together to produce a virtual ensemble for the concert performance. The concert will premiere April 23 at 8:30 p.m.
