GIHS Student is National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist
Congratulations goes out to Grand Island High School senior Kevin Rogoza, who was selected as a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program!
Kevin joins approximately 16,000 semifinalists across the nation for the 66th annual scholarship program, which honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The semifinalists will continue in the competition for thousands of scholarships worth more than $30 million, which will be awarded in the spring.
According to the National Merit Scholarship Corp., over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors.
Two additional Grand Island students – Eleah Leng and Vincent Ricotta – were also commended as part of the competition. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers for the PSAT/NMSQT.
