The Huth Road PTA Enrichment Committee, comprised of Huth Road teachers/staff and a parent liaison who serves as co-vice president, allocates funds to each grade level to find outside programs that fit with topics, interests, and curriculum taught at that grade level. We have opportunities for students to learn about science, social studies, and even personal growth and well-being. So far this year, third grade had a visit from Dr. Birdd who taught students all about simple machines. A certified yoga practitioner for children with special needs came in to work with Mrs. Maving’s class. The Zoo Trunk also came in to visit with Mrs. Maving’s students.
In the fall, the fourth and fifth graders went to an amazing Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra concert at Kleinhans Music hall. Mrs. Allen is currently looking into some art enrichment activities to bring in for our fifth grade students in the spring. In addition to specific grade level enrichment programs, we also have whole school programs to discuss culture, positivity, and anti-bullying. In January, the African Dance and Drum group came to visit Huth Road. They put on a very spirited and energetic show! Students learned a lot about the continent of Africa including information about languages, culture, and various instruments. The Dance and Drum group got students up on their feet to teach them some fun dance moves. They even got the teachers to perform a dance, much to the amusement and enjoyment of the students. We are excited to host BMX Biker Matt Wilhelm in early March for another exciting whole school program. Matt has been on America’s Got Talent and his program will focus on kindness, anti-bullying, respect, responsibility, and perseverance.
