12 JV DECA Qualify for State Contest
Twelve JV DECA students qualified for state competition after developing and presenting an innovative product plan at the sixth annual mini-regional JV DECA competition.
Nathaniel Cohen, Andrew Burke, Michael Christensen, Jackson Frey, Phillip Lepine, Patrick Whalen, Elizabeth Carpenter, Wynonna Roberts, Kathleen Krawczyk, Ella Rudney, Lindsey Olendorf and Megan Pinzel qualified for DECA state competition in Rochester should they wish to write their presentations up into a ten-page manual and attend the three-day conference.
The student teams met for working lunches or at home to hone marketing and public speaking skills that few students their age have developed. Using a team-made tri-fold brochure about an innovative product or service, presenters were asked to identify three problems the product or service addressed, describe the target customer base, explain the single reason the products is unique, explain the three top product features.
A special thanks to the Veronica E. Connor PTA for the mini-grant which funded the mini-regionals!
Guest judges included Jason Myers, Financial Advisor; Michael Fonte, GM Launch Manager for Global Propulsion Systems; Brandon Mumaw, UB Sports Marketing and Co-owner of Sold Out of WNY; and Lauren Mumaw, Creative Therapies Early Interventionist and Co-owner of Sold Out of WNY, as well as the GIHS DECA Advisor Cheryl Chamberlain and DECA Officers.
