Grand Island Student Earns State Recognition in Cosmetology Competition

Grand Island Central School District is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of junior Eden Fancher, who placed third in the New York State SkillsUSA Cosmetology Championships last week.

Competing against 38 students from across the state, Eden’s performance stands out as an exceptional accomplishment—especially considering she has been studying cosmetology for just seven months. Eden explained she had to create an updo in 90 minutes and two hair cuts.

SkillsUSA is a highly respected organization that showcases the nation’s top career and technical education students, and the state championships bring together some of the most talented young professionals in fields ranging from cosmetology to culinary arts, and electrical trades.

You might say her talent is in her blood. Her mom won the competition when she was in school. That was also Eden's goal. "I was still really excited," she said. "There's always next year."

Her success highlights not only her talent and dedication, but also the strength of career and technical education opportunities available to Grand Island students. Her achievement reflects countless hours of practice, creativity, and commitment to mastering her craft in a short period of time.

Placing at the state level is a significant honor. Her hard work has set a high standard and serves as an inspiration to her peers.

Eden plans to be a hair stylist once she graduates. The district congratulates Eden on this impressive milestone and looks forward to seeing her continued success in the cosmetology field.
