Grand Island High School Celebrates the Class of 2026 at 61st Commencement Ceremony

The Grand Island Central School District proudly celebrated the achievements of the Grand Island High School Class of 2026 during its 61st Commencement Ceremony at Kleinhan's Music Hall. It honored graduates for their academic accomplishments, perseverance, leadership and bright futures ahead.

Family members, friends, faculty and staff gathered to recognize the graduating class as students crossed the stage to receive their diplomas, marking the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.

The ceremony also celebrated the outstanding achievements of the Class of 2026 beyond the classroom. Collectively, graduating seniors earned more than $122,000 in scholarships, recognizing their academic excellence, leadership, service and future potential.

Commencement speaker and Grand Island High School social studies teacher Ryan Donnelly reflected on the courage the graduates demonstrated throughout their high school years.

"During your time at Grand Island, you've demonstrated courage again and again," said Mr. Donnelly. "The pressure of playing in front of your friends and family at the big game. The nerves you felt during that first musical performance. The doubt you had about that AP class filled with graphs and equations. You may have questioned whether you could do it. But you did, and here you are."

High School Principal Hillary Kretz-Harvey praised the character and compassion displayed by the graduating class.

"I've watched you support one another through difficult moments and celebrate each other's wins like they were your own," she said. "These moments tell me far more about who you are than any transcript, test score, award or accolade ever could."

Superintendent Dr. Brian Graham encouraged graduates to approach the future with confidence and purpose.

"Embrace change, be resilient, and value the contributions you can give to your community," Dr. Graham said.

Dr. Graham also recognized graduate Ashley Adames Perez, whose journey exemplifies determination and perseverance. After moving from Puerto Rico at age 15 with little knowledge of English, Ashley worked tirelessly to overcome the language barrier and is now fluent in English—a remarkable accomplishment that inspired everyone in attendance.

As the ceremony concluded with the traditional turning of the tassels, the Class of 2026 celebrated not only the end of their high school journey but the beginning of exciting new opportunities. Whether attending college, entering the workforce, serving in the military or pursuing other paths, Grand Island's newest graduates leave with the knowledge, skills and resilience to make a positive impact on their communities.
