Water Safety

Effective July 1, 2026, Education Law Section 926 requires school districts to provide parents and guardians with electronic or written information on water safety at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year. School districts are also required to make this information available on their websites. To support this requirement, the New York State Department of Health has developed a tip card, Safe Swimming Tips for Everyone, which provides important information on drowning prevention, water safety, and safe, healthy swimming practices.
