The District has a high rate of participation in a well-rounded program of team and individual sports. As students move from level to level, the process of selection may become more competitive. Intramural programs are available for all students in grades 4-12.
Grand Island offers over 54 teams in 29 different sports (including varsity, junior varsity and modified programs). Our teams and students participate in the Niagara Frontier League, Section VI and New York State competitions. Many teams have been recognized for their team grade point average in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Team Scholar-Athlete program.
All students must sign up for each season in which they wish to participate. Sport physicals given by board-approved medical staff yearly and are good for one school year. Students must complete seasonal health updates in order to participate in a second or third season. This process is mandated by the State of New York.
Currently, there is a fee for spectators at football athletic contests that take place in the evening or on weekends. Any student who purchases a Grand Island PTSA card is considered “Fan Appreciation” and no admission fee is charged.
