Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division

  • As a second grader, your child should have mastered his/her addition and subtraction facts.  Therefore, we will begin the school year having addition and subtraction timed tests.  Those students who do not reach mastery level (100% on three addition and three subtraction timed tests MUST PRACTICE AT HOME IN ORDER TO REACH MASTERY!

As a fourth grader, your child will be responsible for mastering his/her multiplication facts (100 facts in 5 minutes) by the end of the school year.  However, having a really good handle on all multiplication facts (0-10) by the end of third grade would be most helpful for all students!  We will, as a class, practice our facts by multiple (ie. knowing all  the 2's, the 3's and so on) and will have timed tests on the multiples.  It is a goal for your child to master as many multiples as he/she can by the end of the school year. We will also practice division facts this year as an extension to learning our multiplication facts, however, mastery for division (100 facts in 5 minutes) is not required until the end of 5th Grade.

On this page you will find links to "fact tests" your child can practice (look at the subheading under "Math Fact Timed Tests".  You can also go to the "Links" portion of my webpage to find games your child can use to practice his/her facts online, rather than relying on flash cards.

I also have a few games and a music CD and DVD that can help with mastery as well.  If you would like to borrow a game or a music CD and/or DVD to use at home with your child, just let me know through email or by sending a note to school with your child.
