Hello! My name is Tracy Shores. I am a mother of three children (ages 11, 13, and 16). They are in 7th, 8th and 11th grade, so I definitely understand the life of a middle school AND high school student.
I've been teaching in the area of special education for 19 years. I graduated from Fredonia State in 1993 with a Bachelor's Degree in elementary and special education and a concentration in music. While going to college I taught piano lessons and tutored elementary school children. I also worked at United Cerebral Palsy Association (UCPA) for four summers. Upon graduation, I got a job working at Father Baker's in 1994. I worked there until 2000, at which time I had my 3rd child and took off 11 months to be home with my 3 children and finish my Master's of Education. I received my Master's Degree as a Reading Specialist in 2001. Shortly thereafter, I began working at Veronica E. Connor Middle School. I have been working here ever since. While at VCMS, I have had the privilege of working in many different areas of special education. I first began at VCMS by working in the VIP 8:1:1 classroom. During this time, I implemented an intense behavior modification program similar to what I did at Father Baker's. A few years later, I began working as a resource room teacher, self-contained teacher in math, science, and social studies classes and a CT teacher in collaborative classes. Through 2006-2009, I developed the life skills program at the middle school and worked with children of varying mental and physical disabilities, including children on the Autistic Spectrum. For the past 3 years I worked as a resource room and self-contained teacher.
Within the last year, I have decided to go back and take online courses for credit towards my post-master's education. I have taken 12 courses to date. These courses include classes on Bullying Prevention, US History, Working with Difficult Students, Creating Motivating Lessons, Response to Intervention (RTI), Science Instruction, Brain-Based Learning, Asperger's, Reading Improvement, Integrated Learning, PowerPoint, and Autism Spectrum.
This fall/winter I will be taking online courses on the Autistic Student, Six Traits of Writing, and Enhancing Writing in the classroom.
Beginning the 2012-2013 school year, I have decided to continue teaching self-contained social studies. I am also happily returning to the Life Skills Program. I look forward to a fantastic year. I love my job at VCMS and have enjoyed many different experiences over the last 12 years. I hope to experience many more over the next 12 years!
