SEQA Special Education Programs and Services Focused Review

  • The New York State Education Department Office of Special Education completed a Special Education Quality Assurance (SEQA) Special Education Programs and Services Focused Review in the Grand Island Cental School District during the 2014 - 2015 school year.  The review examined the district's compliance with selected federal and State laws and regulations governing the educuation of students with disabilities. 

     
    The review was conducted by the SEQA Western Regional Office.  The review process involved a review of school records of a representative sample of students with disabilities, classroom visitations and interviews.  Meetings of the committee on special educations were also observed. 
     
    The Grand Island Central School District was found in compliance with 100 items and non- compliant with 10 items.  The non -compliance items were in regards to reviewing  Behavior Improvement Plans and changing wording from  as needed to thought-out the school day.  All non compliance items were amended immediately.  The amended IEPs have been submitted to the NYS State Education department for final approval.  
     
    The district should be receiving final approval (100 % compliance) in February 2016.  A copy of this report may be obtained from the Superintendent's office located at 1100 Ransom Road, Grand Island, NY  14072.
