Bienvenue à la classe de français 2
Course Outline
Each French class will focus on one or two of the essential components of foreign language. The students will learn to speak, read, write and understand spoken French. A great emphasis is placed on speaking the language. This is done by listening to the teacher and other students speak French daily. Class participation and effort are an integral part of speaking French.
Reading French text will improve vocabulary comprehension and retention. Students will be assigned readings in class and for homework. Assignments will be completed individually and at times within a group.
Throughout the year, the students will complete writing assignments of 50 to 75 words in French. Assignments will require the usage of a range of vocabulary. The majority of writing will be completed in class where assistance can be provided.
The students will also complete aural exercises in French. They will listen to French on CD’s and DVD’s and they will answer questions about a conversation. This can be difficult at first but becomes easier with practice.
The first semester will focus on the present tense. The past tense will be studied in detail during the second half of the year.
In addition to grammar, French culture will be studied and discussed. The students will learn about the daily life of teens in France. They will read about French schools, meals, sports, family life, leisure time activities etc. Class discussions will focus on the similarities and differences of French and American teens.
I expect every student to arrive on time and to work to the best of his/her ability. The students can expect the same from me. I am happy to provide extra help when necessary. Appointments should be scheduled at least a day ahead. The best way to contact me is via email. (SusanMacPherson@grandislandschools.org) I am available before and after school with advance notice. Let's have a great year!
