Concussion Protocol for Elementary Students
-
In the event an elementary student suffers a head injury, in school or outside of school the following protocol will be followed. The student suffering a head injury with suspected concussion symptoms will be immediately removed from activity. The school administrator, school nurse, and the parent/guardian must be notified. The student must be evaluated by a Private Medical Provider, and receive a written clearance to return to activity. When the student has been asymptomatic for at least 24 hours and has the written documentation from the Private Medical Provider, they may participate in the first half of activity in their next physical education class. During the second half of that class, they will report to the Health Office to have their symptoms re-assessed by the School Nurse. If the student is still asymptomatic, they may return with no restrictions during the next physical education class.
