    Welcome to US History! United States History and Government is a course that you are required to take in order to graduate from High School. This year we will be focusing on the development in politics, economics, the society of America, and the impacts that these movements had on the rest of the world. At the end of the year, you will take a New York State Regents exam in United States History and Government.

    The topics for this course are the following:

    -          Geography

    -          Constitutional Foundations

    -          Challenges of the Early Republic

    -          Expansion to Crisis

    -          Reconstruction

    -          Industrialization

    -          US Becomes a World Power

    -          The Roaring 20’s

    -          The Great Depression

    -          World War II

    -          Cold War Conflicts

    -          Domestic Policy

    -          Modern United States

    Required Materials:

    1.      Textbook Class set only

    2.      Three-ring binder, 3 INCHES

    3.      Pens or pencils

    4.      Optional - highlighter

    Rules and Expectations:  Grand Island High School follows the guidelines of RTI (Response to Intervention) and The Viking Values of: Be REPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and SAFE.

    1.  Students are expected to follow all policies in the Student Handbook.

    2.  Cell phone policy- Will be discussed in class.

    3.  Class participation is essential.  Your contributions to discussions are welcome and encouraged.  A respect for diversity of opinions is a must.

    4.  Be present and on time.   

    5.  Be prepared for class.   You must bring all your required materials each day. Even more important is your daily preparation for class. Homework assignments should always be completed on time.

    6.  We will work every day. Time in this class should be spent wisely. That means being ready to work when class starts, paying attention, and following directions.  Please stay in your seat until the bell rings!

    7.  All work is due on the date assignedHomework that is late will receive half credit on the next day, and will not be accepted afterward

     

    8.  If a student is legally absent, all work is due on the first day they return.  If a student is late to school and misses class, it is expected that they will submit work that is due to the teacher before the end of the school day.  If you miss a test or quiz, you are expected to take it the next day. You can find any work you missed on the Absent Board in the classroom.

     

    9. PLEASE SEE ME ANY TIME YOU NEED EXTRA HELP! We can set up a time to work together. My goal is always to help you be successful in Global.

     

    GRADING POLICY:

    Grading is done on a total point basis.  Your class average is a numerical percentage of the total points you have earned on all assignments.
