Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK)

  • Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK)

The Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Program within the Grand Island Central School District runs two UPK sites. In addition to our Charlotte Sidway Elementary School location, which runs a morning and afternoon session, we are currently working with Kiddo's Korner Preschool for the 2020-2021 academic school year, as well as 2021-2022. Kiddo's Korner Preschool, 2728 Stony Point Road, is currently providing an afternoon session as our community-based provider.

Our education centers provide an excellent program for four-year-old preschool children within our community. Together, they service 43 children on the New York State Education Department-approved pre-kindergarten curriculum. The program requires attendance five days per week, two hours and 30 minutes per day, and follows the Grand Island school calendar for student attendance days. UPK is a grant-funded program which is dependent on state aid. The amount of aid extended to our District will be the determining factor on the number of students served.

Each spring, the District disseminates a letter to registered families with younger siblings, who are currently enrolled within our school district. The intent of this letter is to distribute preliminary information regarding our UPK program.

If you are a new family to the district, or have a child who will be entering kindergarten in the 2021-22 school year, please contact the District Office at 773-8800 (ext. 0) between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to set up an appointment for district registration.

UPK registration began on March 1, 2021. To register for the lottery draw, please fill out the application.

Please call Jill Morrish at 773-8818 for additional information. The registration deadline is Friday, May 14, 2021.

The UPK Provider Choice Lottery will be held May 17, 2021.
