Louis XIV
Louis XIV is a perfect example of an absolute monarch. The son of the French king, he took over the throne when he was just four years old! Louis XIV claimed that he was the direct representative of God, and therefore had absolute power in his kingdom. His most famous quote is "I am the state!", which shows his belief that whatever he wanted to happen, that was what the country needed to do. He began to refer to himself as the "sun king", because everyone knows that the sun is always there, ruling over the earth. In the same way, Louis XIV would always be there, ruling over France.
