    INTRODUCTION
     
    The Industrial Revolution is one of the most celebrated periods of American history, but should it be?  Production increased, and the economy boomed, but living conditions plummeted, racism ran wild, and children were forced into dangerous environments.  So the question is: was rapid industrial development a blessing or a curse for Americans?
     
    TASK
     
    You will navigate through a series of links, and answer various questions about those links, that give an overview of the things that happened during this time period, and then write a 500 word essay that evaluates whether industrialization had a positive or a negative impact on American society

    ASSIGNMENT (11 points) - Answer the following questions: What was life like for immigrants in America?  What is a tenement?  What are machine politics?  What were four significant actions taken by presidents with regard to industrialization?  What is The Grange?  What are some accomplishments of The Grange?  What is the Populist Party?  what are some accomplishments of the Populist Party?
     
     
    ESSAY
     
    Lastly, identify any three aspects of American society, such as:
    the rise of organized labor
    government involvement in the economy
    the status of farmers
    the role of women
    other aspects, as you see fit
     
    Then, use specific examples from your research to discuss how the growth of industry had an impact on each aspect of society you chose.  You should evaluate whether the role of industrialization had a positive or a negative effect, and explain your reasoning using specific historical examples.
