Athletic Philosophy

  • Viking Athletics Philosophy

The philosophy of athletics, in Grand Island, is considered to be an integral part of the school’s educational program.  We believe that athletics:

    a.  Provide quality programs for all student athletes and encourage all student athletes to play more than one sport.

    b.  Provide a variety of programs and insure all athletes follow the GI Athletic Agreement and academic eligibility standards.

    c.  Provide quality coaching (95% are GI employees/residents, loyalty, role models in community).

    d.  Provide safe environment (facilities, trainer, transportation, Beaver Island, River Oaks, Island Lanes, hall monitors, security at contests).

    e.  Continually upgrading all aspects of Athletic Facilities and Equipment – all weather track, tennis courts, new gym, weight room, MS gym floor, nine (9) team rooms, PE locker rooms, swimming & diving timing system, pitching machine and batting cages.

    f.   Facility Expansion Plan – Outdoor Facility Plan (JV Baseball, Softball, Soccer/Lacrosse practice fields, new Softball field and visiting side football field – blacktop with additional bleacher.

    g.   Provide Athletic Opportunities and Scholarships – Online College Scouting, Hewitt Award, Outstanding Athlete, Scholar Athlete Teams/Individual NYS Scholar Athlete recognition, PE Scholarship, Gene Masters Memorial Scholarship, and many others.
